Disorderly conduct

On Aug. 28 at about 2:30 p.m., two WPD officers responded to an incident at the Community College of Rhode Island, 400 East Ave. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with a CCRI police department officer who had a suspect in his patrol vehicle.

The CCRI officer said that while on campus patrol, he responded to a disturbance in progress at the RIPTA bus terminal. As he approached the terminal, he could see a RIPTA bus driver waving for help. The bus driver stated that the suspect had been acting in an aggressive manner on the bus and was asked to exit. After attempting to get on a different bus, the suspect threatened the CCRI officer and told him he would “kick his ass.” While exiting the bus, the suspect began to punch the bus stop terminals with a closed fist.

The suspect was taken to WPD headquarters and charged with disorderly conduct.

DUI, probable drinking while driving

On Aug. 30 at about 6:15 p.m., three WPD officers arrived on scene at Greenwood Liquors, 2751 Post Rd., for a motor vehicle offense in progress. The reporting party had observed a white Ford F150 driving “all over the roadway.”

The reporting party had been driving behind the suspect on Jefferson Boulevard when he noticed the vehicle swerve between lanes and stop in the middle of the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Williamsburg Drive after the light turned red.

At Greenwood Liquors, another witness saw the suspect attempt to purchase an 18-pack of Modelos but was refused sale because he appeared to be intoxicated and police were en route to the location. The witness said he was unbalanced on his feet and had slurred speech.

WPD officers conducted a series of field sobriety tests on the suspect. A search of the vehicle yielded four empty Modelo cans.

The suspect was taken to WPD headquarters. He was charged with DUI of Liquor .15 or Greater and issued a citation for the presence of alcohol while operating/riding in a motor vehicle. He was issued a mandatory Traffic Tribunal appearance for Nov. 14.

No Seat Belts

On Aug. 30 at about 10:45 a.m., a WPD officer was working a Click It or Ticket detail at a traffic post at 999 Bald Hill Rd. The officer observed a gray Volvo heading southbound on Bald Hill Road with rear-seat passengers not wearing their seat belts. Upon running checks on the vehicle, the registration was found to be suspended. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Target at 1245 Bald Hill Rd.

Upon making contact with the vehicle and its four occupants, the officer found that two occupants had active court warrants. The vehicle was towed from the scene by P&P Towing. The officer issued the driver a court summons for operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration and no seat belt on a passenger. He was assigned a court date for Nov. 14.

The two passengers with active warrants were taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI), where they were turned over to their custody.
