SHELTER IN PLACE

According to Cranston Public Schools, on Wednesday, Oct. 16, “there was a Shelter in Place at Cranston High School West because a student was experiencing an emotional event.”

“It is important to note that not every Shelter in Place or lock down is due to an incident that requires outside police presence,” according to a statement from Cranston Public Schools. “Our School Resource Officers and our school administrators are trained professionals and are capable of making decisions to escalate the level of support needed on campus.”

DUI, RECKLESS DRIVING, OBSTRUCTION

Around 2:12 a.m., Oct. 21, Cranston Police Officers arrested Jonathan Adames-Torres, 28, of 60 Burnside St., Providence, for Reckless Driving, Obstructing an Officer, DUI (2nd offense, blood alcohol content-BAC unknown) and Driving with a Suspended License (4th or Subsequent Offense, a misdemeanor). The arrest was the result of “observing a motor vehicle operating recklessly” in the area of Webster Avenue and Cranston Street, according to Cranston Police. Adames-Torres was “currently at Hospital,” according to Cranston Police.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Around 4:24 p.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Stephen Costigliola, 50, of 108 Wales St., Cranston, for one count of Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of a disturbance call at Starbuck’s, 2 Chapel View Blvd. Costigliola was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released, according to Cranston Police.

NO CONTACT ORDER VIOLATION

Around 6:36 p.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Chloe Massie, 28, of 164 Second Ave., Cranston, for one count of Violation of a No Contact Order. The arrest was the result of a dispersal call at 164 Second Ave. Massie was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and transported to ACI Women’s Intake as a “Bail Violator,” according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 7:52 p.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested James Herrera Hierro, 33, of 454 North Main St. Apt. 2, Woonsocket, for an active Family Court Reciprocal Body Attachment. A “body attachment” is issued when someone is served with a witness subpoena to appear at Rhode Island Family Court, but does not appear. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop in the area of Reservoir Avenue and Burnside Street, according to Cranston Police. Hierro was transported to ACI Intake, according to Cranston Police.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

At 10:32 a.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Jeison Cuevas Jimenez, 29, of 501 Public St., Providence, for Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of a disturbance call at Laundry Basket, 947 Cranston St. Jimenez was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

At 9:34 a.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Michael Cann, 24, of 10 Sigel St., Apt. 2, Worcester, Mass., for an outstanding Bench Warrant. The arrest was the result of a call for service from 63 Lawrence Ave. Cann was transported to the ACI, according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

At 9:16 a.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Nathan Vanasse, 34, of 3 Betsy Williams Circle, Johnston, for an active Bench Warrant. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle crash at 241 Main St., Cranston. Vanasse was transported to the ACI, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT

At 7:59 a.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Mikhail Filipau, 21, of 33 Grace St., for Domestic Disorderly Conduct. At the same time, Cranston Police Officers also arrested Robert Carl Pekrul, 58, of 33 Grace St., for Domestic Disorderly Conduct.

The arrests were the result of a disturbance call at 33 Grace St., Cranston. Filipau and Pekrul were arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, according to Cranston Police.

SIMPLE ASSAULT

At 4:50 a.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Frederick Monia-Matthews, 30, of 445 Pleasant St., South Weymouth, Mass., for Simple Assault. The arrest was the result of a warrant pickup by Warwick Police. Monia-Matthews was awaiting morning arraignment.

DUI

At 1:13 a.m., Oct. 20, Cranston Police Officers arrested Jesus Garcia, 30, of 1685 Broad St., No. 5, Cranston, for DUI (first offense, BAC unknown) and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop at 923 Cranston St. Garcia was awaiting morning arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

NO LICENSE

At 3:59 p.m., Oct. 19, Cranston Police Officers arrested Patricia Delgado, 42, of 392 Public St., Providence, for Driving with Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled License (fourth or subsequent offense, a misdemeanor). The arrest was the result of a pickup at Providence Police Department based on a previously issued arrest warrant. Delgado was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC VANDALISM

At 12:32 a.m., Oct. 19, Cranston Police Officers arrested Yahaira Montanez, 36, of 67 Lynch St., Providence, for Domestic Vandalism. The arrest was the result of Rhode Island State Police (RISP) “turning her over for an A/A warrant out of this City,” according to Cranston Police. Montanez was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, according to Cranston Police.

HIT & RUN

Around 1:34 p.m., Oct. 18, Cranston Police Officers arrested Dino Depina, 30, of 26 Haven Ave., Cranston, for Duty to Stop-Accident w/Attended Vehicle. The arrest was the result of a crash investigation in the area of Park Avenue and Budlong Road. Depina was awaiting arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 12:59 p.m., Oct. 18, Cranston Police Officers arrested Diego Rancano, 36, of 1224 Cranston St., Cranston, for an arrest and affidavit warrant out of Johnston Police Department. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop in the area of Budlong Road and Baldino Drive. Rancano was transferred over to Johnston Police, according to Cranston Police.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 5:06 p.m., Oct. 17, Cranston Police Officers arrested Marie Diaz, 55, of 788 Atwells Ave., 3rd Floor, Providence, for Shoplifting. The arrest was the result of a call for service at Price Rite, 1441 Elmwood Ave. Diaz was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, according to Cranston Police.

DOMESTIC FELONY ASSAULT, DANGEROUS WEAPON

Around 7:41 a.m., Oct. 17, Cranston Police Officers arrested Stanley Rowe, 44, of 21 Blackamore Ave. Cranston, for Domestic Felony Assault w/Dangerous Weapon and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. The arrest was the result of a disturbance at the aforementioned address. Rowe was transported to 3rd District Court for arraignment.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 12:42 p.m., on Oct. 17, Cranston Police Officers arrested Rubens Antoine Rawls, 27, of 144 Merino St., Providence, for an arrest and affidavit warrant out of the Providence Police Department. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop in the area of Broad Street and Wentworth Avenue. Rawls was transferred over to Providence Police.

WARRANT ARREST

Around 1:21 p.m., Oct. 17, Cranston Police Officers arrested Felix Ocasio, 42, of 116 Magill St., Pawtucket, for an arrest and affidavit warrant out of Pawtucket Police Department. The arrest was the result of a call for service at the Cranston Police Vin Station at 900 Phenix Ave. Ocasio was transferred over to Pawtucket Police.

SHOPLIFTING & CONSPIRACY

Around 2:07 p.m., Oct. 17, Cranston Police Officers arrested Michael Campagna, 34, of 675 4th St., South Boston, Mass., for Shoplifting and Conspiracy. The arrest was the result of Superior Court turning him over to Cranston Police custody on a previously issued arrest and affidavit warrant out of the Cranston Police Department. Campagna was awaiting arraignment.

SHOPLIFTING

Around 2:21 p.m., Oct. 17, Cranston Police Officers arrested Michele Nieves, 38, of 1128 Danielson Pike, North Scituate, for Shoplifting. The arrest was the result of a call for service at Stop and Shop, 204 Garfield Ave. Nieves was awaiting arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

BANK FRAUD, IDENTITY THEFT

At 3:35 p.m., Oct. 16, Cranston Police Officers arrested Joseph Lagreca, 41, of 172 Woodward Ave., East Providence, for Bank Fraud, Identity Fraud, Theft – Obtaining Credit Card, Obstructing an Officer in the Execution of Duty, and Possession of False Identification. The arrest was the result of a call for service at Citizens Bank, 1030 Park Ave. Lagreca was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and released, according to Cranston Police.

BURGLARY, FELONY ASSAULT, CONSPIRACY, RESISTING ARREST & WEAPONS CHARGE

At 8:29 p.m., Oct. 16, Cranston Police Officers arrested Timothy O’Shea, 19, of 140 Chestnut Hill Ave., Apt. 1, Cranston, for Burglary, Felony Assault, Conspiracy, Weapons other than Firearms Prohibited, and Resisting Legal or Illegal Arrest. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop and subsequent arrest based on a previously issued arrest and affidavit warrant. O’Shea was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and remanded to the ACI, according to Cranston Police.

BREAKING & ENTERING

Around 5:04 p.m., Oct. 15, Cranston Police Officers arrested Rhony Barias Sanchez, 21, of 284 Manton Ave., Providence, for one count of Breaking & Entering Dwelling House w/o Consent, one count of Conspiracy-Felony, and an active Arrest & Affidavit Warrant issued by North Providence Police. The arrest was the result of a Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) investigation, and subsequent issuance of an Arrest & Affidavit warrant, according to Cranston Police. Sanchez was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and transferred to North Providence Police.

SHOPLIFTING HABITUAL OFFENDER

Around 5:53 p.m., Oct. 15, Cranston Police Officers arrested Paul J. Cicerone, 52, of 14 Kennedy Drive, North Providence, for one count of Shoplifting-Felony and one count of Habitual Offender-Shoplifting. The arrest was the result of a previous incident, and subsequent issuance of an Arrest & Affidavit warrant, according to Cranston Police. Cicerone was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and transferred to ACI Intake as a Probation Violator, according to Cranston Police.

FELONY SHOPLIFTING & CONSPIRACY

Around 1:56 p.m., Oct. 15, Cranston Police Officers arrested Derek Decosta, 49, of 71 Daggett St., Pawtucket, for Shoplifting-Felony and Conspiracy. “The arrest was the result of this subject being turned over to 3rd District Court,” according to Cranston Police. Decosta was arraigned at 3rd District Court, according to Cranston Police.

DUI

At 11:07 p.m., Oct. 14, Cranston Police Officers arrested Allison Crews, 36, of 593 Mineral Spring Ave., Pawtucket, for DUI (2nd offense, BAC unknown). The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle crash investigation at 26 Haven Ave. Crews was held pending morning arraignment, according to Cranston Police.

GUN CHARGES

At 4:11 a.m., Oct. 15, Cranston Police Officers arrested Jared Brown, 26, of 764 Charles St., Providence, for two counts of License or Permit to Carry Concealed Pistol, and one count of Weapons Other Than Firearms Prohibited. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop near the intersection of Cranston Street and Washington Avenue. Brown was held for morning arraignment.

SCAM ALERT

The Cranston Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving individuals impersonating police officers.

“We have received reports of residents being contacted by scammers falsely claiming to be officers from our department,” CPD posted on social media. The released the following scam details:

  • The caller falsely claims the resident was a witness in a court case and missed a court date, resulting in a bench warrant.
  • The scammer demands a large payment to clear the warrant via Bitcoin ATMs, Apple Pay, or other electronic methods.
  • Scammers may also leave voicemails using our official number as the caller ID, requesting the resident to call back at a different number.

Police remind residents that they “will never request payment over the phone, ask for Bitcoin or any other electronic funds transfer methods.”

Cranston Police have asked residents, that if they “receive a call of this nature, do not comply, hang up immediately, and contact our department directly at 401-942-2211 to verify the information.” And they remind residents to “never provide your personal or financial information over the phone.”


SUNGLASSES SWIPED: On Oct. 6, Cranston Police responded to the Sunglass Hut at 12 Midway Road for a reported shoplifting. According to police, “a male and female had entered the store and concealed” approximately $1,000 worth of sunglasses “on their person.” The pair passed “all points of purchase failing to pay for the sunglasses,” police said.
