PEDESTRIAN STRUCK

She was on her way to the bus stop but woke up in the hospital.

Warwick Police are looking for witnesses to a Wednesday incident on Buttonwood Avenue that sent a teenage girl to the hospital.

Around 6:42 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14, Warwick Police responded to the area of 198 Buttonwoods Ave. for the report of pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, according to a department press release.

Warwick Police Officers arrived on scene and found a 16-year-old girl had been struck by a small SUV, which was traveling south on Buttonwoods Avenue.

“The juvenile was initially reported to be unconscious and had an obvious head injury,” police wrote in the press release. “She was transported by ambulance to Hasbro Children’s hospital, where she is conscious and undergoing treatment. The investigation has revealed that the juvenile was crossing the roadway from the east side of Buttonwoods to the west side in order to make it to her school bus stop in the Work out World parking lot.”

According to Warwick Police, the incident “is still under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time.”

Police said that “speed/alcohol are not factors,” and the “driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.”

Who steals liquor while barefoot and while walking his pooch? Warwick Police would like to know.

Around 4:15 a.m., Aug. 30, a suspect and his dog appeared on surveillance video during a break-in at the  Tri-City Elks Lodge, 1915 West Shore Road.

The “the person in the attached images, accompanied by his canine companion, broke into the tiki bar at the (Elks Lodge) and stole an amount of liquor,” according to a post on the Warwick Police Department’s Facebook page.

The suspect appears to be barefoot.

According to a longtime Elks member, the suspect has yet to be identified.
