Really not enough

To the editor,

In response to your article “Not Enough” front page of the March 16, 2023 edition, you chose to only partially quote what I said. What I actually said was “The CPD started using rifles 20 years ago at  the Phenix Ave gun range. Before then, they were shooting only handguns. The heavy barrage of automatic AKs started about 5 years ago. “

My other concerns are why nothing was mentioned about the other major topics I discussed like:

What’s being done about all the lead bullets that have been accumulated there from the past 75 years?

Will the soil there and rain water runoff be tested after several bullet casings were found near the schools and as far away as Oaklawn Ave as reported and documented to the CPD.

Will the air be tested when several automatic rifles are being fired simultaneously?

When there’s proving data that shows Johnston Police had to stop firing them in there range due to the harmful pollutants they cause in the air so now they shoot at the CPD range.

Regarding the decimal level, simple research will show you that the automatic rifles used range from 125-175 dB, depending on how many rifles are firing at the same time. (Thus the need for heavy-duty ear protection). We have documentation.

A little bit more research will show you there are hundreds of resident within 1/4 mile radius of the range.  Most disturbingly, there are thousands of Cranston children attending school across the street from the range who do ALICE mass shooting drills while hearing gunfire outside the classroom door.

Finally, I would like to suggest you complete your research. Then, publish another article on what could be done to protect all Cranston residents and bystanders. Established scientific medical facts about the health consequences of noise pollution are not up for debate—they are not “beliefs”.  And to say to us “Why don’t you just move?” lacked professionalism, impartiality, and basic human empathy.

Respectfully,
