Bring Your Own Improv Youth Workshops

Bring Your Own Improv and the Warwick Center for the Arts have a common interest in educating youth. It is with that in mind that BYOI created a program in 2014 for teens, to teach them improv as well as self-confidence and problem-solving skills. The Youth Collective meets every Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Warwick Center for the Arts. For each two-month session, youth take four weeks of workshops followed immediately by four weeks of shows.

Youth must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and no previous experience is required. Parental permission is required. The $245 fee must be paid in order to hold a youth’s spot. The workshops include lessons, the shows and free admission to the 7:00 p.m. shows for participants. WCFA Members may purchase the workshops at a rate of $195. Annual Apple Festival

The annual apple festival at Johnston Memorial Park (1583 Hartford Ave., Johnston) will take place Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event will feature Artisan Row, handcrafted items, pony rides and more. Free and open to the public.

Vision of Hope Cancer Walk

The thirteenth annual three-mile fundraising walk to benefit women with gynecological cancer and their families will be held, rain or shine, on Sept. 11 at Warwick City Park on Asylum Road in Buttonwoods. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds go to the “Women in Need Fund” and the “Integrative Care Services Fund” programs at Women and Infants Hospital in memory of Kerri McClean who succumbed to a five-year battle with cervical cancer in 2009. OLLI Classes for Adults 50+

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Rhode Island continues its registration for the fall semester. OLLI at URI provides classes for adults aged 50 and better. West Bay Chorale Celebrates 42nd Concert Season

West Bay Chorale will kick off its fall 2022 season on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., with registration starting at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at St. Kevin Church (333 Sandy Lane, Warwick). Current singers as well as those interested in joining the Chorale are invited to register and learn the details of the upcoming concert season. Information regarding Covid-related rules will be shared. Artistic director Eric W. Van Dervort and the chorale’s board of directors will lead the meeting. All current singers and those interested in joining must be vaccinated and boosted as recommended and everyone must show proof of vaccination. Masks will either be required or recommended, depending on Covid trends. In particular, we are seeking Tenor and Baritone voices. 19th Century Music Concert

Join the Providence Brigade Band for a living history concert at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Church of the Ascension (390 Pontiac Ave., Cranston). The concert will feature 19th century music performed on antique instruments. All proceeds will benefit the Church of the Ascension. Tickets are $10 at the door and include light refreshments.

Narragansett Bay Chorus

Library looking for podcast geeks

Are you a fan of listening to podcasts? Do you have a lot of technical skills you would like to apply to a great community resource? The library has its own weekly podcast, Warwick Radio Online, and is building a team to help run it.

Warwick Radio Online (https://warwicklibrary.org/warwick-radio-online-4) highlights the wonderful things that make Warwick great from community resources to opportunities for entertainment to the background and history of the city. They are looking for folks who would like to be technicians to operate the recording studio and edit episodes of the show, on-air talent to serve as hosts of episodes, or managers to supervise and schedule podcast episodes. Those interested can serve in one or all of these roles. Tasks could include recording content in the studio, hosting/co-hosting, interviewing, scriptwriting, editing sound, and experience with Apple computers and the GarageBand audio-editing software. Experience would be helpful, but the library can also help you learn the skills you would need to work on the podcast.

Reflections of Our National Parks

The East Greenwich Art Club will meet at the East Greenwich United Methodist Church (1558 South County Trail, East Greenwich) on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Local and well- known artists, Kathy Hodge and Mary Dondero, will present a program, “Reflections of our National Parks.” They will reveal professional paintings done while each was an Artist in Residence at one of the parks, discuss their experiences, the works they created and what opportunities exist for other artists to apply for Residencies. Rising Leader Scholarship

Apply for the R.I.S.E. leadership scholarship – funds can be applied to tuition, textbooks or graduate exam application fees. An applicant must be the following: a woman residing in the United States as of Jan. 1, 2022; a high school senior or first year college student with a 3.0 minimum GPA; and an individual who is able to demonstrate personal commitment to serving as a leader in their school, extracurricular activities or community. Greek Festival

The Church of the Annunciation will hold its Greek Festival from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11. There will be authentic Greek food, Greek music and dancing and Odyssey Dance Troupe performances. There is free admission and the event will take place at 175 Oaklawn Ave. The festival will be open the following days/times: Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. Additionally, there will be free shuttle buses running from Cranston West.

Volunteer with Westbay Community Action

Do you have a passion and desire to make a difference in your community? Westbay Community Action’s ‘Marketplace,’ the second largest food pantry in RI, needs volunteers who are interested in a fun and rewarding experience working with like-minded people. Volunteers 17 years or older will be stocking shelves, unpacking trucks and helping individuals with picking up their food. Bowlers Needed

The Warwick Men’s Church Bowling League is in need of some new bowlers. The league was established in 1951 and is still bowling duckpin at the Meadowbrook Bowling Alley in Warwick. The group bowls on Tuesday nights from September until April. A weekly fee of $15 provides three games of bowling, small events and a banquet at the end of the season with cash prizes. Volunteer Opportunity

Friends Way invites caring, sensitive and committed individuals to take advantage of the organization’s volunteer opportunities. Approximately 15 volunteers come together each group night to work with the grieving children, teens and adults. Facilitators work with a specific group of children, teens or adults by helping them safely and openly express their feelings of grief through age-appropriate activities using the expressive arts. Hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. every other week on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Professional training is provided. Friends Way asks for a commitment of one year and eight hours a month. Exhibit of Commemorative Ceramics

Are you caring for someone with dementia who exhibits difficult to manage behaviors?
