Roundup: Falcons fall to champs

The Cranston West boys soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to the defending champion Bishop Hendricken Hawks last week at home.

The teams exchanged goals in the first half and were tied 2-2 at the break. However, the Hawks got a goal in the second half which would be enough as they shut down the West offense the rest of the way.

West got goals from Nate Zarone and Matteo Ingiardi while Gabe Fajardo recorded an assist. Jack Payne finished with 18 saves in net.

The Falcons fell to 5-3-3 with the loss and entered the week in sixth place in Division I. The team traveled to Tolman on Tuesday but the results were unavailable at press time.

East 5, Juanita Sanchez 1

The Bolts extended their winning streak to six games after beating Juanita Sanchez last week.

Michael Ogunmola and Jose Ramos each scored a pair of goals to pace the offense while Jorge Rodriguez added another. Christian Isernia, Rodriguez, Ogunmola and William Adenmomum all recorded assists while keepers Juan Delarosa and Agustin Veliz combined for four saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

West 3, Portsmouth 0

The Falcons remained in the Division I playoff race by beating Portsmouth on Monday.

Harper Cohn, Brooklyn Carreiro and Saniyya Chase all scored for West.

East 6, Central 1

The Bolts picked up a big win over Central last week. Julia Hale, Victoria Acevedo and Ava Chiarello all scored two goals while keeper Bryanna Morales finished the day with five saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

North Kingstown 7, West 0

The Falcons were shut out by North Kingstown. West’s Angelina DiBiasio had a strong day despite falling in the second doubles spot, as she battled to a 3-6, 4-6 decision.

FOOTBALL

Moses Brown 22, East 8

The visiting Quakers held off the host Thunderbolts last week to grab the Division III win.

The Bolts trailed 16-0 in the second quarter and got a touchdown when Kalsin Yan rushed for a score, followed by a 2-point play by Nathan Huorth to cut the deficit in half.

It would be all Moses Brown from there though, as it added a second half score and played shut out defense to claim the victory.
