Friends of the Warwick Public Library, who traditionally raise funds to benefit the library through book sales, were faced with a dilemma with the pandemic. They had plenty of books, but they couldn’t allow a mob to wander in and pick out what they wanted. That just wouldn’t work. But they weren’t going to be stumped or allow the year to go by without helping the library meet expenses not covered by their budget. They came up with a patio sale limiting it to 15 people at a time who could buy six books for $5 and six children’s books for $2. Purchasers got to choose books that were pre-packaged by genre. So, there was a surprise element to this as well. Friends board members Cheryl Cotter and Jayne Berghorn added yet another component – a plant sale. They dug up perennials from their own gardens, selling them for $5 to $7. Cotter, seen here bagging books for the sale, was delighted with the book & plant sale that raised $1,908 for the library.
