Sisters gaining fans in Warwick

“Have you been to Sisters?” I’ve been asked more than once, only to learn that it is Warwick’s newest Chinese restaurant.

Located at 3301 Post Road, a couple of doors down from City Hall, we found it after a few spins around the rotary.

The cozy restaurant is gaining a big takeout and dine-in business, featuring a dine-in cocktail lounge, an alcove with tables for families and two rows of booths.

The sisters work in the kitchen and front of the house and come out to greet you and check on your every need.

“Your satisfaction is our priority!” it says on the front of the extensive menu… and they really mean it.

Sisters offers a dozen lunch specials, ranging from Chow Mein – Fall River style – ($7.20) to Lo Mein ($8.20).

On our next trip, we’ll find out what Fall River style is, and try their Chop Suey, which are two traditional dishes we never order at Chinese restaurants.

There are 20 combination plates on the menu ranging from $8.75 to$10.75. In addition to your entrée, you have a choice of two sides (Fried Rice, Chow Mein, Egg Roll or Steamed Broccoli).

The regular list of entrees is like many Chinese restaurants, with prices ranging from $9.75 to eight exotic shrimp dishes at $13.05.

I enjoyed the Crispy General Tso’s Shrimp which was bedded in the most delicious sauce and accompanied by the freshest, greenish broccoli. I actually ate it. And it was good!

Our meals were accompanied by a generous dish of white rice. Joyce kept dipping her rice in my sauce.

There are six Szechuan Yu Shang Style dinners on the menu, and Joyce chose one of them – Shrimp Yu Shiang Style ($12.75).

Yu Shiang is a Szechuan way of cooking, a mixture of sugar and vinegar with garlic and chili sauce, generating a unique exotic flavor. Sautéed with water chestnuts, green peppers and mushrooms, it is delicious. Yes, Joyce let me try it.

Kung Pao pork, beef, chicken and shrimp are in the $12 range.

King Pao is the most famous Mandarin cooking, combining sweet, sour, hot and salty tastes and adding chili pepper, garlic, scallion, dark soy sauce, sugar, vinegar and roasted peanuts.

When I was a child, my mother used to take me to Louis’ Lunch in Downtown New Haven for a chow mien or chop suey sandwich. You can get them at Sisters for $5-$6.53.

Take out numbers are 401-738-6162 and 401-352-0016. The business is closed Monday but is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

Congrats to Sisters! I know there have been several restaurants prior to this latest establishment.

I must stop by there soon since I only live around the corner and I am very familiar with Apponaug.

I just wanted to say without getting off the topic but when I saw the 3301 Post Rd. address, I couldn't help but think of my dad's (Paul E. Coutu, Sr. known as "Emile") restaurant, the form Father & Son Cafe, from many years ago. Ca. 1914 to 1980.
