Skating rink doesn’t make sense

To the Editor,

Global warming is in all the news.

Why would Warwick think about an outdoor ice rink? What value could this bring to the city? Warwick doesn’t have the money or the manpower to maintain the rotaries or parks we have. Now the city is planning to build a new park with the ice rink behind City Hall.

When are our politicians going to do things that make sense? I have thought about Apponaug center. I have been to East Greenwich center. I have been to Putnam Conn. Center. I have been to Wakefield Center. All these towns are busy, which means people are spending money which means these towns are collecting taxes. It would be a big construction job but we have a perfect town center to build store shops and restaurants with plenty of parking.

Our town planners need to put more thought into a plan that makes tax revenue not cost the city money. Making ice in 50 degree weather is going to cost. Food trucks pay tax on half the cash they take in. We need people walking around town hall spending money.

There are plenty of people with money to invest. Look for them.
