To the Editor,
To my friends and neighbors in Ward 3, thank you for the honor and privilege in representing you on the Warwick City Council the last eight years. As I’ve said repeatedly over the years, I believe in term limits and the elected individual should have the integrity to step down. With that, I respectfully end my service on the Council at the end of this term.
Thank you to Council President Steve McAllister, my council colleagues, Mayor Frank Picozzi and his amazing staff. The communication, goals and expectations were always open, honest and understood. Achieving Warwick’s largest paving initiative in decades, street light LED upgrades for improved safety of our citizens, complete overhaul of the city’s aging fleet of vehicles in all departments for efficient direct services to Warwick citizens and the building of two 21st century high schools.
Thank you councilmen Vinny Gebhart (Ward 9) and Bill Foley (Ward 1) for stepping up and serving with me on the Finance Committee the last four years. You put in the time, detail and energy that will benefit generations of Warwick citizens. Your neighbors are well represented. As Chairman of the finance committee, I had the pleasure of working closely with Mayor Picozzi and Council President McAllister regularly. We communicated, agreed and disagreed but always ended every meeting with laughs, understanding and enormous respect. Respect that is matched by love of our great city! I consider both men friends.
There are many ongoing projects in Ward 3 that will continue to require a strong advocate for our neighbors. The Mickey Stevens revitalization project, Sand Pond Beach environmental revitalization, three new hotels, numerous neighborhood and housing developments, RIAC Cargo facility, and business growth in City Centre to name just a few. Over the last couple years, I have relied on lifelong Warwick resident, lawyer and coach Bryon Nappa as an advisor and voice for his neighbors in the Greenwood neighborhood. Bryan Nappa will be running to serve Ward 3 and has my complete support! Bryon is aware of the ongoing projects and has shown great eagerness to serve and represent Ward 3. As well as work with Mayor Picozzi for the citizens of Warwick.
