Story sends me back to Sophia’s

Greta Shuster’s article in last week’s Warwick Beacon brought back fond memories of dining at Warwick’s Sophia’s Tuscan Grille.

Located at 1729 Warwick Ave., the unpretentious restaurant shares a building and parking lot with DePetrillo’s Pizza & Bakery.

Chef Chris Palios, a Johnson and Wales graduate with several culinary credits to his name, is a master at creating Italian fare “with an accent.” His credentials include learning the basics at age seven from his Sicilian grandmother. Every dish is made in house and prepared in small-batch style.

Palios concentrates on chicken, veal, steak and seafood, using only the freshest ingredients and complementing spices.

On our last visit, I enjoyed a meal like nothing I have ever experienced—Crab Casino. Served over angel hair pasta with a light lemon butter sauce, it included lump crab, roasted garlic, baby spinach, chopped bacon, Parmesan crumbs and chives. ($29)

Joyce enjoyed the Spicy Rigatoni, homemade of course. The tender pasta was enhanced with charred grape tomatoes, crushed calabrian chili, mozzarella, house ground sweet sausage, Pecorino Romano, and fresh basil in a creamy vodka sauce. ($30)

Delicious warm bread with olive oil is included.

Delicious appetizers and salads are on the menu.

Both of us enjoyed the leftovers the following evening.

Sophia’s is BYOB, so bring along your favorite wine or beverage. Soft drinks are available. General Manager Kim Caimano was our waitress that evening, greeting us like old friends. “Hi, kids. Can I bring you water or soda pop?” she said noticing we did not BYOB.

Reservations are a must for this popular restaurant. Call 732-6656.
