Supports reelection of Bill Foley

Posted

To the Editor,

During his first term representing Ward 1 on the city council, Councilman Bill Foley has led numerous initiatives that have benefited Warwick residents. I have seen firsthand how Councilman Foley works hard every day on behalf of taxpayers.

As a member of the finance committee, Councilman Foley is tasked with overseeing City finances. Any expense over $1,000 goes before the finance committee. Councilman Foley reviews each bid package that comes before the committee and routinely asks insightful questions to the administration. He does this not only at council meetings, but also weeks before meetings, calling city directors or the Mayor to gain a better understanding of particular bids. Councilman Foley doesn’t seek the limelight, but instead remains consistently focused on the bottom line and how he can ensure that City purchases provide the best value to taxpayers.

In Ward 1 Councilman Foley collaborated with the Mayor to get a major reduction in sewer assessments in the Governor Francis neighborhood. This reduction will save homeowners thousands of dollars over the next twenty years. He also helped secure funding for Salter Grove Park, and has been a true advocate at City Hall for Gaspee Days and Pawtuxet Village.  Councilman Foley voted for two no tax increase budgets, while also voting to invest additional funds into our schools and our aging infrastructure.

I am privileged to call Bill Foley a friend and to work alongside him on the city council. I ask that Ward 1 residents vote for Councilman Bill Foley on Tuesday, September 13th in the Democratic primary. There is more work to be done, and we need people like Bill Foley on the City Council—people who want to advocate for and protect taxpayers every day.
