With family at his bedside, Matthew J. Votta, 61, passed away peacefully in hospice care on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Louis J. Votta, Jr. and Hope A. (Weeden) Votta.
Matthew grew up with his ten siblings in the Gaspee section of Warwick where he graduated from Tollgate High School in their Industrial Arts Program, and then attended Community College of Rhode Island. Matthew worked at Electric Boat, and eventually joined his brothers at Votta Associates, serving as office manager of their family business.
While Matt enjoyed the single life, he also treasured spending time with his nieces and nephews during weekends and holidays. Among his favorite pastime activities, Matt never turned down an opportunity to play golf or shoot pool especially with his brothers. A voracious reader, among Matt’s greatest enjoyments, was sitting in the backyard on the chaise lounge or his recliner enjoying his morning coffee and newspaper.
He is survived by eight of his siblings, Stephen G. Votta (Mary) of Cranston, Deborah A. Lancia (John) of West Warwick, Ginger M. DeNicola (Ted) of Warwick, David L. Votta (Joanne) of Blackstone, MA, Mark E. Votta of Exeter, James M. Votta (Peg) of North Smithfield, Dennis W. Votta (Carrie) of East Greenwich, and Margaret M. McCarthy (Jack) of Milford, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Neil P. Votta and Thomas J. Votta.
We can envision Matt at this very moment, sitting with his Mom, Dad, brothers Neil and Tom having their coffee, as they plan their day. A picture to behold and cherish. We Love You, Matt.
His funeral was held on Saturday, March 25, from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. Burial was in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick
