DUI

On the night of Nov. 30, Officer Aaron L. Steere was working an impaired driving enforcement detail when he was notified of an erratic operator that had been stopped near Delguidice Field off Palmer Avenue. The vehicle involved had reportedly struck an unoccupied, parked vehicle and been followed by a witness before being stopped by police.

Steere responded to the scene, where other officers were speaking with the operator. The other officers said their initial findings indicated the operator was potentially impaired.

Steere then took over the investigation and made contact with the operator, who is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that evening and being involved in an accident. The operator is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he was reportedly unable to complete.

Devan Guilbault, 25, 109 Ruggles St., Apt. 3, Providence, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to a mobile alcohol testing station in the parking lot of the Warwick Mall. While at the testing station, he is said to have refused to submit to a chemical breath test. He was then transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.

Guilbault was issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and leaving the scene of an accident. He was held as a probation violator.

SHOPLIFTING

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 30, Officer Jessica L. Masso responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting. Dispatch subsequently advised that asset protection staff at the store had a male suspect in custody.

At the scene, an asset protection associate told Masso that a man had been observed apparently browsing for jackets without security sensors. The man then selected a black North Face jacket, removed it from its hanger and concealed it inside a backpack before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. At that point, store employees met the man and escorted him back inside. The jacket, valued at $249, was recovered.

Cameron Whitford, 19, 54 Arthur St., West Warwick, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Dec. 4, Officer Timothy J. Tavares and other officers responded to the Target location at Warwick Mall for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Dispatch advised that the suspect was concealing items in the store’s electronics department.

At the scene, the officers observed the suspect exit the mall and run toward a bus stop, at which point he was taken into custody.

According to a statement from a Target asset protection associate, the suspect was observed selecting three items from the electronics department – a thermostat, a video surveillance camera and a wi-fi router, with a combined value of $747 – before concealing them in a red bag and exiting the store without making any attempt to pay.

The merchandise was recovered. Police say they found a “booster bag” in the suspect’s pocket, which is an item used to provide a shield against electronic alarms.

Erekle A. Siradze, 33, 53 Cleveland St., Pawtucket, was arrested on charges of shoplifting, shoplifting as a habitual offender and unlawful use/removal of a theft detection device. He was transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing and held pending an appearance before a bail commissioner.

LARCENY

At approximately 4:15 on Dec. 5, Officer Kevin P. Warren responded to the Balise Auto Annex at 340 Jefferson Blvd. for a report of tires and rims being stolen from vehicles.

At the scene, a manager told Warren that the tires and rims had been taken from two vehicles – a black 2020 Toyota Camry and a gray 2020 Toyota RAV4. The Camry had been lifted off the ground with a jack, while the RAV4 was sitting on cinder blocks. Lug nuts were scattered around both vehicles.

The manager said the vehicles had last been seen with their rims and tires at approximately 10 a.m. on Dec. 4. No security camera footage was immediately available.

The matter was documented.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, Officer Cody Wild responded to the Firestone auto service center on Bald Hill Road for a report of larceny.

At the scene, the reporting party told Wild she had parked her vehicle in the Firestone lot at approximately 6:45 a.m. before leaving on a bus trip to New York City. Upon her return at approximately 10:30 p.m., she found the rims and tires missing from her vehicle – a 2018 Infiniti QS50 – and its front passenger window broken. The vehicle’s glove box was open and the bag containing the locking lug nut for the rims was missing, although no other items had been taken.

No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was documented.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 6, Officer Jeffrey S. Viveiros was on patrol at the intersection of West Shore and Strawberry Field roads when he observed a silver Ford pickup truck proceed through a red light onto West Shore Road eastbound.

Viveiros followed the truck, initiated a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the operator. A subsequent records check found the operator’s license was suspended, and that he had two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license. The vehicle’s registration was also found to be suspended.

Christopher Nichols Brennan, 35, 230 Rockland Road, Scituate, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. It is easy to identify those people that don't read the Police Log in the Warwick Beacon. They are the ones shoplifting at the Mall and getting caught!

    Cat,

You may notice that the vast majority of shoplifters, DUI's, etc. are not Warwick residents, but unwelcome visitors to the city.
