At 7:49 p.m., Nov. 8, a Warwick Police officer on routine patrol on Warwick Avenue spotted a vehicle take a right turn onto Post Road at a high rate of speed without a turn signal, according to the police incident report.

The driver, Christine A. Leonard, 64, of 78 Hobson Ave., Apt. 1, East Providence, was asked to exit the vehicle after police detected the strong odor of alcohol and noted that her eyes were bloodshot and glossy.

After a series of sobriety tests, police determined Leonard was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Leonard faces a misdemeanor charge of DUI-Liquor, Blood Alcohol Concentration Unknown, and two civil violations of Driving on a Suspended License (first offense), Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense), and traffic violations, Speeding (11 miles in excess of the posted speed limit), Turn Signal Required and Laned Roadway Violations.

Leonard was issued a Third District Court date of Nov. 18. … Around 12:55 a.m., Nov. 9, a Warwick Police officer was on routine patrol on Route 95 North in the area of Route 4. The officer noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the right lane and swerving in a “serpentine” style, according to the police incident report.

Police initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Roberto Collazo, 34, of 64 Jenks St., East Providence.

Police noted that Collazo’s eyes were “extremely glossy, and were mildly bloodshot,” according to the report, and there was a slight odor of alcohol in the vehicle.

Collazo submitted to a series of field sobriety tests, but ultimately refused a chemical breath test.

He faces misdemeanor charges of DUI- Liquor, Blood Alcohol Concentration Unknown and Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (second offense).

Collazo was assigned a Third District Court Date of Nov. 18.

At 12:32 a.m. on Nov. 11, a Warwick Police officer on patrol in the area of East Avenue observed a vehicle stopped halfway between the right travel lane westbound and the breakdown lane. Then the vehicle pulled forward and continued to travel down East Avenue while halfway in the breakdown lane. Police initiated a vehicle stop.

Police on the scene had difficulty getting the driver to lower the driver’s side window. When she finally did, police noted the odor of alcohol coming from inside the car.

Police asked the driver, later identified as Catherine R. Bishop, 42, of 101 Stony Acre Drive, Cranston, for a driver’s license. Police wrote in the report that Bishop had trouble locating the identification and instead attempted to hand police her debit card.

Police asked Bishop to exit the car, and then performed a series of field sobriety tests.

Police determined Bishop was under the influence. She was arrested and faces a misdemeanor charge of DUI- Liquor, Blood Alcohol Concentration Unknown and Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (first offense).

SHOPLIFTING

At 4:48 p.m., on Nov. 15, Warwick Police were dispatched to Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for the report of a shoplifter.

Police spoke to the store’s asset protection officer.

The Macy’s security officer told police that he spotted a man with a Market Basket plastic bag on surveillance video, concealing a shirt in the plastic bag. When the asset protection officer confronted the man, who was later identified as Xavier Young, 19, of 65 Prospect Hill Ave., West Warwick, he said that he would give the merchandise back.

In all, Macy’s reported to police that Young had attempted to steal three items, valued at $172, and the store wished to pursue criminal charges.

Young was issued a Third District Court Summons for one count of Shoplifting and was told to appear in court on Dec. 7.
