Warwick’s Crow’s Nest – better than ever

Restaurant Review by Don Fowler

There was fear and trepidation when word got out that Warwick’s beloved Crows Nest had been sold to the Italian restaurant De Quattro Restaurant Group owners of the upscale Il Massimo and Pane e Vino.

Nothing against fine Italian dining, we just want our fish and chips, fried clams and scallops!

Have no fear, folks. The Crows Nest is open for business. The friendly staff is back at work. The dining rooms have been renovated, a large aquarium has been added and the food is as good as I remember it.

The back bar, where I frequently joined my old friend Ed Salamano for fish and chips and a cold beer, is still there.

The best news is that my favorite entrée (fried scallops and whole belly fried clams) which our waitress said is still one of their most popular dishes, is as good as ever.

Clams are market priced, so be prepared. The dish was $24.95 last Friday.

Joyce, who usually leans toward Shrimp Scampi or Shrimp Fra Diavlo ($24.95), joined me with the clams and scallops.

Large portions, cooked to perfection, were accompanied by your choice of sides. You don’t have to settle for French fries, although selections also include mashed and veggies.

I chose the onion rings, made with real onions, and their home made cole slaw.

Joyce got the slaw and garlic bread. The meal was accompanied by a basket of warm rolls.

Most of the entrees are served as smaller portions for $14.95, which is perfect for senior citizens, although we prefer the larger portions so we can take half of the meal home for the next day.

Located at 228 Arnold Neck Ave., off Route 1 past the rotary, which you should have figured out by now. They don’t take reservations, but will put larger groups on their list. Call 732-6575.

Open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (10 on Friday sand Saturdays).
