On March 17, St. Patrick’s Day will once again be upon us. It’s an occasion where people of Irish ethnicity celebrate their heritage while others wear green and pretend to be Irish for one entire day. Beers will be drunk, whiskey will be sipped while an array of corned beef & cabbage will be abundant in many establishments all over the world. In the Cranston, Warwick & Johnston area, there are a few ways to ring in St. Patrick’s Day with a bunch of events taking place in numerous locations. To be in the know of where to go, here’s what’s going on around these parts of Rhode Island.
Proclamation always has a knack for putting on some cool events in their taproom and on St. Patrick’s Day it’ll be no different. Food Vibes RI and Saugy Hot Dogs will be slinging delicious eats and with a few specials being on both their menus. There will be plenty of beers on tap including Socks & Shoes Dry Irish Stout, a special green lager and many others along with Proclamation’s head brewer Bruce Hutchings exhibiting his stellar bagpipe skills at 5pm.
Beer and comedy are a combination that guarantees some laughs and they’ll both be at Buttonwoods Brewery on St. Patrick’s Day in abundance. Boston comic Dan Bougler, who has performed on Comedy Central, the BBC and the HBO Aspen Comedy Festival, will be headlining the evening with local comedians Logan O’Brien, Liz Moniz and Jeremy Furtado rounding out the bill. There will also be a special holiday menu with corned beef sandwiches and more being made available for purchase.
St. Patrick’s Day is always a great time to catch some live music and it’ll be going down at Escada with local cover band Nothing Personal. A quartet consisting of both Patrick Devin and Rich Pare on guitar & co-vocals, Mike Hill on bass & co-vocals and Chris Manfredi on drums, they’ll be bringing a mix of pop, rock and country hits to the stage. It’s also free admission if you’re looking for a fun night out that won’t hurt your wallet.
For anyone who is looking to spend their afternoon on St. Patrick’s Day enjoying some traditional Irish tunes, then the Pub On Park is the place to be. Garda will be performing an array of pub songs, rebel songs, unique covers and even sea shanties to start the day in festive fashion. There will also be plenty of specials on the menu so be prepared to show up with an appetite.
VooDoo Vixen is an amplified hard rock & heavy metal cover band with a catalog that ranges from the ‘80s to the 2000s and they’re looking to blow the roof off of Boomerangs on St. Patrick’s Day. There will also be plenty of corned beef, reubens, Irish dinners and drink specials to go around. As of press time, the reservation list is filling up fast so call up the establishment at 401-615-1100 to get a table for yourself, friends and family ahead of the show.
