Dear Representative Ackerman,

Your growing concern of high school students staying away from politics and the State House in particular is spot on.

And why? I believe they develop a disconnect with politicians. They don't stand tall enough. You,on the other hand, are setting the right example with your mentoring program. You should get together with Rep. Joe McNamara of Warwick (the head of the R.I. Democratic Party). Joe sponsored a bill that takes the book knowledge and brings the students out into the business world to see, first hand, the practical applications. His bill, #2015-H 5895 and your mentoring efforts will help attract our youth a hell-of-a-lot more than some of the antics of others. Einstein once said "Setting the right example is not the best way of influencing others. It's the only way".
