State Representatives Joe McNamara and David Bennett deserve enormous credit for the hard work they put into this needed legislation. Drug and alcohol abuse affects every family in Warwick. Dave Bennett talked about the "demon that's walking our streets".

We need to do our share to keep that demon from taking over the streets. I owned real estate in Smith Hill for years. I watched that neighborhood go from a very "rediscovered Jesus" area to a crack cocaine neighborhood. I remember calling the police to report serious crime and having them tell me "we just don't have the manpower!" They opened a "Community Action Office" on Chalkstone Ave. and 6 months later closed it down because it got too many reports of crime; more than they could handle.

Don't think that can't happen in Warwick. It can and it has, all over America. Talk to your police-person. Start a "Community Crime Watch". Talk to your City Council person. Talk to "someone", because if you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. As Mayor I will be dedicated to do my part.

Enjoy your Summer, safely.
