BeaconCommenter: Your point is a fair one. Hendricken and LaSalle might very well encounter superior competition out of state. But both schools have identity in RI, and have for decades. Neither school has anything in common with SENE schools. And to dispel a point to which Jake Marrocco alluded, Which conference in Massachusetts anxiously awaits the arrival of Hendricken or LaSalle, given that all Catholic Conference schools are members of the MIAA, already have a full schedule, and would view this as a bizarre fit, at best?

As to the relative success of public schools of late, the RIIL contests state championships in 14 male sports. In the 2015-16 school year TWO state championships were won by public schools; both by South Kingstown. That is the low point since the inception of the Interscholastic League in 1932. Mr. Aquilante, I admire your dedication to the kids you coach, and I'm sure your kids work hard. But that does nothing to refute the fact that Pilgrim, one of the three largest schools in the state, is likely to finish in last place in Division 2A football. And Tollgate, not far behind in terms of enrollment, is likely to finish in last place in Division 3B. TG finished it's soccer season in 15th place out of 16 in D2, while Pilgrim finished a respectable 5th, but curiously in D3. Neither school is likely to finish in the top 10 at the cross country state meet, despite glaring advantages in enrollment. This will only get worse in the winter, as it has in the last ten years. As to the Why, I believe Warwick is now flush with plump, video game-dependent, borderline literate (see PARCC scores) kids, who are children of plump, video game-dependent, borderline literate parents. And if there are some "pretty good sports teams" in Warwick I'm all ears. But I'd be interested in counter points which are fact based.
