Mr. Corrente: I will not pile on here, but multiple questions. First, you can't be serious that the teachers' union is receiving "overwhelming support" from taxpayers. Have you been misquoted? Second, can we agree that the existing defined benefit plan is woefully unsustainable and should be replaced with a defined contribution plan that would benefit both employees and taxpayers? Third, Can we also agree that the entire notion of a teachers' "union" is a relic of the 70's and no longer needed? Fourth, Do you endorse these "sick out" stunts? Fifth, and perhaps most important, Can you explain how some of the highest compensated teachers in the northeast are responsible for some of the most deplorable achievement test results in the state? In a city well below the median poverty level? I'm seeking first to understand your positions because the existing "collective bargaining" process is little more than rearrangement of deck chairs on the Titanic.
