Hmmm....enrollment in education programs is down nationwide and has been decreasing for a number of years now. For whatever reason(s) fewer people want to go into teaching.

Rhode Island's solution to this problem is to DOUBLE the amount of time prospective teahcers spend doing student teaching.

So instead of paying for one semester worth of school (10-30k) in order to work a full time job - student teaching - without pay we will now ask people to pay for an entire year's worth of college -as much as $60k - in order to work for a school year without pay. And after paying $20-$60K to work for ten months without pay you just may be rewarded with a job that the starts at what, $40k? When you've got 6 figures in student debt...

Am I the only one who sees this as telling people that they should look to another state if they want to teach?
