Cat, I have to agree with wwkvoter that you make good points, and also that bringing up names from the past is probably not the wisest thing to do.

It is safe to say that Mayor Solomon was elected because he touted his experience on the city council as his main qualification for the mayor's office -- and yet he claims to have been fooled/tricked/misled by the previous mayor.

On top of that. he very unwisely announces a "settlement" with the firefighters union before the union has actually voted on it. It's difficult to understand why, unless he somehow thinks that he will generate public support for his proposal (and, by extension, against the fire union).

These are, to put it bluntly, rookie mistakes -- but he has been around far too long to be considered a rookie.

Ultimately, whether he wants to admit it or not, Solomon is in charge now, and he and his longtime colleagues on the city council will be held responsible for whatever happens.

They will have no one to blame but themselves.
