More about WB community health. This is the organization that receives health care dollars from the city, as well as from other Rhode Island towns. The payments are for so-called “self-insurance” and some kind of premiums, a dual payment scheme which on the surface makes no sense, and has not been explained. According to a form 990 for WBCH, these payments come to over $100 million annually. Not a small number. Recently, their website went dark, and they abandoned their office on Jefferson Blvd with no apparent forwarding address. They filed an address with the Secretary of State that matches that of a certain law firm. This has the appearance of an organization going into hiding, or absconding with the money. They supposedly had just 2 employees, which could be considered an administrative model of efficiency, except how such a small organization without any reputation or observable skill set gets the lock on a rather large revenue stream is an outstanding question. I believe the answer is related to city and state-wide entrenched processes designed to serve the very special interests, not the peoples interests.
