When some of his former students found out Roy Roberts, principal at Lippitt Elementary School from 2000 until 2011, had lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 21, 2013, they came together to organize a memorial, which will be held tomorrow.
The two-hour coffee time memorial will be held Jan. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library. All are welcome to come by, say hi, reconnect with friends and remember Roberts.
There will be a memorial journal at the event for individuals to write a note or share a memory about Roberts; the journal will be given to his family. The Roy Roberts Memorial Fund has also been established in his memory; those interested in contributing can send donations to Jeanne MutoKyle at 2332 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886, or call 739-7100 for more information.
Roberts is survived by his wife, Moraima; his two sons Cheikh “Che” and Na’im; in-laws Roman and Martha Velasco; brother-in-laws Roman and Jose; sister-in-laws Martha (Roberto) and Mireya (Ignacio); seven siblings, Paul Roberts, Karen Roberts, Kenneth Roberts, Joel (Ingrid) Roberts, Tina Roberts, Valerie Roberts, and Blair (Yolanda) Roberts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
