Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up five cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s August 29 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.20 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is two cents below the national average of $2.22. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 18 cents higher at $2.38.

“Despite this latest increase at the pump, motorists planning a late summer vacation will see Labor Day prices lower than any time since 2004,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 38 cents, from a low of $2.06 to a high of $2.44. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.

With RI's gasoline tax the 8th highest in the country, one would think that our roads and bridges would be the envy of the Nation, particularly due to our size. However, the money disappears into the black hole known as the General Fund to be dispensed at the will of the General Assembly to their salary, expenses and benefits, as well as their friends, and constituents who haven't done anything to earn it except to arrive here from a Central or South American nation.

The really amusing thing is that the man you put in the White House talks about the "greedy" oil companies, whose profit per gallon of gas is around 5 cents, while the Federal Gas Tax is 18 cents per gallon and diesel is 24 cents per gallon.
