Warwick Veterans High School will host an assembly Tuesday featuring former Boston Celtics star Chris Herren, who will speak to junior and seniors in the auditorium at 10 a.m. about his experience with substance abuse.
A second presentation at 6:30 p.m. is open to students from nearby schools, and parents are encouraged to attend. Herren, who has been sober since 2008, will share his struggle with substance abuse, but also his efforts to put sobriety and family above all else. The event intends to show youth the damage and despair that substance abuse can cause, and is made possible by the Warwick Youth Programs Advisory and Prevention Task Force. There is no entrance fee. For more information, call the school at 734-3200 or visit www.ahoopdream.com.
