Aims to strengthen city

Posted

To the Editor,

Recently a young man contacted me on Facebook to ask a simple question: Why are you running for office? I informed him I am running for City Council because I believe the council will be made stronger with the addition of new, enthusiastic members with fresh ideas. I grew up in Warwick, graduated from Toll Gate in 1998. I have worked in both the public and private sector. I worked in the US Senate advocating for veterans and seniors. My constituent services experience has prepared me well for a city council position. I also worked in the Governor's office, listening to and collaborating with citizens and business owners.

In my current role as Senior Manager of the Eastern Region for the US

Chamber of Commerce, I work with small business owners and members of the New England congressional delegation. We all work together to support our business community. As a past member of the Pawtuxet River Authority, I have sponsored river clean ups and advocated for a cleaner environment. As a member of the Board of Commissioners for RI Housing, I work to ensure RI residents have safe and affordable housing. In short, I have long tried to help strengthen our community and will

continue to do so on the council. I believe my experience will allow me to

hit the ground running as a strong advocate for our community. As outlined

on my Facebook page (Facebook.com/McAllister4Council), I have a number of

priorities, including safe, clean neighborhoods and responsible,

transparently managed budgets. I commend this young Warwick voter for reaching out to me. It's always

great to hear from citizens aiming to make informed decisions at the polls.

Steve McAllister

Democrat Candidate for City Council Ward 7
