Trinity Repertory Company announces the completion of a mural painted by Providence Painted Signs on the back of the Trinity Rep building, above Trinity Brewhouse. The mural now welcomes visitors to downtown Providence as one of the first landmarks they see exiting off Route 95. The mural was commissioned with funding from the Providence Tourism Council, The Procaccianti Group, and Jack and Sara McConnell.

“Using our building to make a home for a larger-than-life piece of public art was really important to us as the State Theater of Rhode Island,” remarked artistic director Curt Columbus. “This collaboration between the theater, Providence Tourism Council and the local artists of Providence Painted Signs will welcome visitors to the Creative Capital for years to come.”

LaSalle Square is currently the site of the Rhode Island Civic Center, the international headquarters of Hasbro, an existing hotel as well as a new proposed one and attracts thousands of tourists annually. The mural also pays tribute to Project Discovery, Trinity Reps landmark student matinee program celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The school bus in the mural represents the more than 1.3 million students exposed to the magic of live theater at Trinity Rep.

Providence Painted Signs is a Providence-based company led by Shawn Gilheeney, Buck Hastings, and Greg Pennisten. Providence Painted Signs believes lettering is an art form in need of preserving. They specialize in custom hand painted signs of all kinds. The outcome is unique, eye catching, and long lasting.
