Why Testa is best qualified

Posted

To the Editor,

Experienced. Committed. Advocate.

All three words truly describe David Testa, my husband of 24 years, and his immense dedication to our Warwick Public Schools.

David is running for School Committee, and I want every Warwick resident to know why you should absolutely commit to getting out and voting for him – and only him - at the polls on Primary Day, Tuesday, September 13th.

David is the most qualified candidate for school committee and the best-qualified candidate for school committee, hands down.

Experienced. Committed.

Of the candidates running, only David:

l is a father of three daughters – one who is now a sophomore at RI College – all three very well educated by our Warwick Public Schools

l possesses long-time experience and understanding of having a student with an IEP/504 (since 2002), from pre-school to high school

l in his everyday job manages a $125 million category and leads a staff of 28

l has been an active attendee at Warwick School Committee meetings since 2002, speaking out for all students on all that matters

l is a founding member of the WPS Parent Communication Advisory Committee since its inception in 2008, serving as chairperson since 2009

Committed. Advocate.

Of the candidates running, relative to our students/schools, only David:

l has served on various committees and was in attendance at a multitude of school-related meetings since 2002, always advocating for all students

l fought to help prevent the implementation of the flawed proposed elementary report card in 2006

l was THE first person to publicly oppose our Warwick schools paying principal and interest on bonded indebtedness in 2009. And, sadly, what started out as a $200,000 line item for our schools to pay back is now an astronomical $1.4 million.

l publicly opposed the proposal to hurriedly close Gorton Junior High School in 2013

l publicly opposed the elimination Gorton librarian in 2013, who thankfully ended up being hired back shortly thereafter

l forcefully and publicly spoke out against efforts to move from an elected to an appointed school committee in 2012 and again in 2015, the latter attempt being one that attempted to circumvent the voters

l publicly scolded the School Committee for not questioning before approving the Superintendent's new WPS administration organizational chart (not a single sitting school committee member questioned it!) 2015

I promise you that a vote for David is a vote towards all of us working together to make our schools the best!

As David says, “At the end of the day, somebody’s school system has to be the best, why not ours?”

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful consideration.

Laura Testa

I am quite sure that Dean Johnson has two sons. Does having daughters make one more qualified?

Honestly, David Testa is articulate but in my experience, he rarely disagrees with the current school committee.

I do not see him as a force of change. I see him as more of the same old, same old. I am not interested in that.
