A welcome shining St. Patrick's Day parade

Posted

The 59th annual West Warwick St. Patrick’s Day Parade held Sunday was blessed with sunny and unusually warm weather and that was a relief for many marchers who have endured rain, snow and downright intolerable conditions to keep the tradition alive

The parade is hosted by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Pawtuxet Valley.

Warwick Senator Erin Lynch Prata was grand marshal and joining her were Senator Jack Reed, Representative James Langevin, Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee; Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, General Treasurer Seth Magaziner as well as locally elected officials from Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick and Cranston. Gov. Gina Raimondo was not in the lineup.

Look at all the people that attended the St. Patricks Day Parade in West Warwick.

Those visitors are now attracted to West Warwick and might become new taxpayers. Why Warwick doesn't follow suit is a mystery to me. Warwick doesn't even have Christmas decorations at City Hall in December. (they are in storage) We have lost over 5,800 taxpayers in the last 10 years (according to the U.S. Census). Our students dropped from 17,000 to under 9,000. Warwick NEEDS to attract new taxpayers. A St. Patricks Day Parade and Christmas decorations are the least Warwick can do. As Mayor I will do a whole lot more. If we welcome back 5,800 taxpayers at $5,000 in tax revenue each that would increase our tax revenue by $29 MILLION DOLLARS. That's almost 10% of our entire annual budget and we wouldn't have to raise taxes one penny. Maybe we could even "Cut Taxes - Cut Spending".

Warwick can't continue to lose our taxpayers. We have to do "something" to attract new taxpayers. At present we're doing nothing, or close to it. That thought-process has got to reverse itself. It has to.

Happy Spring everyone.

Richard,

Have you considered the possibility that you are mentally challenged and should seek help? Just askin'.

Hello again Thecaptain:

Why would the fake "mayor" acknowledge reality, when he can just continue to make up delusional statements and post them on the Beacon?

Maybe he's too busy trashing the city to remember that Warwick hosts Gaspee Days [including a parade] every June -- clearly, admitting that the city already holds very popular and well-attended events ruins the narrative that he's trying to push.

"At present we're doing nothing, or close to it."

That must have sounded so good in his own head -- the only place, coincidentally, where there are no new hotels being built at City Center, no new stores moving into Rhode Island Mall, and no new restaurants opening near the airport.

And maybe he's too busy twisting the facts to realize that not all of the 5,800 residents who left Warwick were taxpayers, in the sense of owning homes and cars -- and that Warwick simply does not have 5,800 available properties for purchase by these imaginary taxpayers.

At least he recognizes one fact, even if it's unintentional, when he says: "Maybe we could even 'Cut Taxes - Cut Spending.'"

By saying the city "could" cut taxes and spending, he is finally admitting that his party's majority on the city council increased spending and revenue from taxes in FY18.

Of course, as you and I have seen so often from the fake "mayor," he will no doubt disavow any such meaning and insist that those increases were actually cuts and repeat the false statements he's made before about this year's budget.

Oh yes Richard, I'm sure people who attended the parade in West Warwick said: "Wow. They have parades here for a middle of the road holiday that not everyone celebrates? Let's pack up the family and move here tomorrow. Yayyyyy".

This is the level of thinking we're working with when it comes to the fringe candidate for mayor.

Interesting that Rick mentions the student population has decreased from 17,000->9,000 students over the last 10+ years. Its interesting because the population has declined (almost in half), schools have been closed to reflect this, but does the amount of teachers in Warwick reflect that same data? Where was the workforce reduction Rick? Does that not play a role in why there is no $ availible? You can't answer the question because it goes against all of your pandering.

Hello again Scal1024:

Before the fake "mayor" replies to scold you again, let me credit you with perfectly outlining the major defect in his statements: They are based on things that only he believes, and that could only spring from such a delusional mind as his.

You also rightly raise the question of why, as the school population has fallen, the city has been spending more or less the same for the schools during this whole time -- and correctly point out that the fake "mayor" can not, and will not, answer with the truth because he has been so intent on pandering to the teachers union.

Thankfully, the majority of voters in Warwick see through the fake "mayor" as effectively as you do, and will ensure that his second campaign for mayor ends the same way as the first: With an overwhelming loss.

Dear Scal1024,

No Scal, I don't mind answering that question.

You asked "Where was the workforce reduction?" Good question. I was at the School Committee (SC) meeting when the SC unceremoniously fired 64 MORE teachers. I wrote about it in the Beacon. Don't you remember. You criticized me for it. The SC STILL gets $160 million +- of taxpayers money each year but they keep spending it on administrative staff like an "Asst. Principal of Climate and Culture" and an "Asst Principal of Teaching and Learning" while the teachers got lied to about receiving their back pay that they were promised in writing to receive 4 days before Christmas. You accuse me of pandering to the teachers. I call it standing up for what is right. If the opposite were the case, I would stand up for the SC. But it's not. The teachers were lied to Scal. You don't support that kind of treatment for them do you?

And no Scal, I'm not saying "Have one parade and we increase our number of taxpayers". I'm saying we need to promote Warwick to the rest of Rhode Island. You agree with that don't you Scal? Don't you think events like "Gaspee Days" attracts new homebuyers? Don't you think we need more events like that?? Maybe even Christmas decorations? What would you do to attract more taxpayers Scal?

Happy Spring Scal1024.

Happy Spring everyone.

Wow, Scal1024, you're getting the fake "mayor" to play his greatest hits:

Lying about the school committee [those were layoff notices, not firings, and only 22 teachers were actually laid off; the rest retired or found jobs elsewhere], flip-flopping on prior statements without acknowledging that those earlier claims were false [he repeatedly called those assistant principal positions "new" when they were not], and demanding that others provide answers when he can not [he's the one bashing the city while claiming that his delusional ideas would "attract more taxpayers"].

Pathetic, too, how he finally acknowledges Gaspee Days, yet still clings to the fantasy that Christmas decorations at City Hall would "attract new homeowners."

Thanks for your continued work in exposing the fraudulent, losing fake "mayor."

Notice that the fake mayor (Mayor Dumbness) never makes a comment about the city's unfunded liabilities. He never comments on how the WFD continually overspends its generous budget. He never comments on the waste and abuse, lack of GPS, theft of city property, or the continued unsustainable impact of the cost of services in Warwick.

Doesn't comment on the WFD violating state law and disposing of financial related records.

He never comments on how in the past several years, 97 % of the tax increases have been spent on the city side of the budget, yet the schools are basically level funded.

Doesn't comment on how the last tax increase which netted $4.5 million, 19.5% of the total net was distributed to 114 firemen when the unused sick pay was increased to 75% and cost the taxpayers $1, 092,421. That would take some research and procurement of documents.

Never says a word on how then Finance director Zymlinski made a $649,000 error on his fiscal note pertaining to 1 single line item.

Notice how he can never quantify anything, It's I did this, I did that, I I I I I . Sickening dementia.
