Dems endorse Kirby
While he has run for mayor on three occasions, twice as a Democrat and once as an independent, John “Jack” Kirby has never been formally endorsed.
That changed with his unanimous endorsement by the Democratic City Committee. Kirby made the round of Democratic ward committees prior to coming before the city committee.
In a press release issued yesterday, Kirby, who has dubbed himself “the working man’s candidate,” thanked the committee for believing in him and his platform. He listed his platform as a freeze or lowering of property taxes, support of Warwick schools, expansion of career and technical education, a lower tangible tax to attract business, adequate funding of municipal services and expanded services for the elderly.
Carel Callahan Bainum also declared as a Democratic candidate for mayor, but withdrew her candidacy a couple of weeks ago. Her withdrawal did not come in time to have her name removed from the ballot for the Sept. 9 party primary.
