DPW crews to begin road repairs, street sweeping

Department of Public Works crews didn’t delay in responding to Mayor Joseph Solomon’s early morning call Wednesday that the road to the Toll Gate Educational Complex was pocked with potholes. By late morning, DPW acting director Mathew Solitro reported four to five tons of hot asphalt had been used to plug potholes and that more work would be done today. While technically a school road, Solitro said city crews were ready to help out. Long range, the road needs a complete restoration, he said. The department has one full-time crew working on potholes that is augmented by a second crew every other day.

This morning, Mayor Solomon stopped by to visit DPW crews, who were busily filling a series of potholes leading up to the Toll Gate High School campus. Workers will continue to be out in force throughout the City each day to make similar repairs.

The Mayor also said that street sweeping would begin late next week. The process will continue for the next couple of months, until all City roads are cleaned.

“One of my priorities has been to address our many infrastructure needs, which includes making sure our roads are safe for all who travel throughout Warwick,” the mayor said. “Our crews will be working diligently in the weeks to come to make repairs as quickly as possible.”
