Edward Leo Higgins Jr., 82, of Warwick died Monday, December 11, 2017 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita F. (Parisi) Higgins who died on September 15, 2017 and the late Joan J. (McCrystal) Higgins.

Born in Webster, MA, he was a son of the late Edward Leo Higgins, Sr., and Alice (Ostrowski) Higgins. Ed received a Bachelor of Art degree from Providence College, a Masters of Psychology degree from Perdue University and was a Doctoral Candidate in Theology at Boston College. Before retiring, he was employed as the Director of Guidance and Special Programs at West Warwick High School and was the Guidance Counselor at H. H. Ellis Technical High School in Danielson, CT. Ed also served as a Professor at Providence College and at Our Lady of Providence Seminary. Edward was a longtime communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Warwick and enjoyed golfing, traveling, theatre and horseracing and especially enjoyed attending sports events with his grandchildren. Edward also served in the United States Army.

Edward is survived by his loving children: Colleen Higgins (Mark Perry) of Westerly, Karen A. Moody (Michael) of Mississippi, Kevin P. Higgins of Warwick, Thomas J. Higgins (Donna) of Warwick, Deborah J. Rezendes (Jay) of Glendale, AZ and Erin L. Decker (Arthur) of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the beloved father of the late Matthew E. Higgins, loving grandfather of the late Raymond James and brother of the late Raymond Higgins.

His funeral will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. from the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 3252 Post Road, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 4 p.m.- 7 p.m. Interment of will take place at a later date in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Coventry.
