Feb. 17, Mrs. Roper Romp Charity Event Benefiting VICTA and Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue is scheduled for Sat., Feb. 17, from  1 to 5 p.m. at the Safehouse,  195 Old Forge Rd. , in the Potowomut area of Warwick/East Greenwich. Tickets are $10 each. Pet food, treats, toys, blankets to donate to the animal rescue are also requested. Those attending, come dressed to impress as Mrs. Roper (wig and all) wearing their favorite, groovy caftan and gaudy baubles. Mr. Ropers are welcome too, of course! Feb. 17, A Community Pet Vaccine Clinic (for cats and dogs only) is being hosted by The Rhode Island SPCA Animal Health Center, 155 Plan Way, Warwick,  on Sat., Feb. 17,  from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. while supplies last. No appointment necessary. Dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in carriers. We are offering rabies, distemper, and microchipping for $20 each or all 3 for $50. Pets must be at least 8 wks. old for Distemper and 12 wks.  old for Rabies. To be eligible for a 3-yr rabies vaccine, owners must provide proof of prior vaccination.

Feb. 20, Photographic Society of RI will hold a meeting on Tues., Feb. 20, at 6:30 p.m., as a social time and the meeting will start at 7 p.m. It will be held at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., Warwick.  Joe Brady-The Ten Things You Need to Know in Photoshop.  You don’t need to know everything Photoshop can do to make it a powerful partner for your image editing! You can save time and effort by reserving Photoshop for those edits and adjustments that it does best.  We’ll start with the basic adjustments using Lightroom and then head into Photoshop as Joe demonstrates the ten tools and techniques that every photographer should know.  From basic to advanced uses, we’ll share techniques that improve the color, flow, light and composition of your photographs!  Future meetings will include live demos, competitions, set-ups for photo ops, image studies and presentations from experts on a vast array of topics for a wide range of skill levels.  Whether a member or not, please come and enjoy the program and to see what the club is all about.

Mar. 10, Bowling for Animals Event will be hosted by Defenders of Animals, Inc., on Sun, Mar. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Lanes, 2530 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. The event includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, and soda for a $25 donation to Defenders of Animals, Inc. Donations may be sent to www.defendersofanimals.org under the donation section. All net profits will be used for the organization’s state-wide free and low-cost spay/neuter program for cats and dogs.

Mar. 13, AARP CHAPTER 2210 "The Ladies Foursome” Trip will take place on Wed., Mar. 13, to the Newport Playhouse to see "The Ladies Foursome." The trip includes a delicious luncheon buffet, the play and a delightful cabaret show after the play. Mar. 17, Edgewood Yacht Club Annual Open House will be hosted by the Officers and members of the Edgewood Yacht Club on Sun.,  Mar. 17. from 12 to 5 p.m., at The Clubhouse, 1 Shaw Avenue, Cranston.  Edgewood Yacht Club has 135 years of tradition on Narragansett Bay. Members will be available to offer tours and information regarding yearly social activities. Memberships are available for both boat owners and social members. Edgewood Sailing School will have staff on hand during the open house for inquiries about Youth and Adult Sailing Programs for the upcoming season. Light fare and refreshments will be available.

Apr. 26, Ocean State Center for Independent Living Annual Conference will be held on Fri., April 26, at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick from 8:30 a.m.  to 12:30 p.m. This event is dedicated to fostering independence and inclusivity, uniting industry leaders, innovators, and advocates for the rights and advancement of persons with disabilities.  There will be speakers, panelists, and exhibitors. May 4 thru June 5, RI Driver Education Course in ASL at RI School for the Deaf is taking registrations now for RI Driver Education Course meeting Mon. thru Fri., 3:15 to 5:15 p.m., with one Fri., May 31, at 2:15 - 5:15 p.m., at RI School for the Deaf, 1 Corliss Park, Providence.  Course fee is $100 plus $10 registration fee = $110.  NAMI-RI Offers Family Support Groups The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) offers free support groups for families and friends of loved ones who are struggling with their mental health. The groups are led by trained facilitators who also have lived experience as family members themselves. The group meetings last about 1.5 hours, and everyone who participates in the meeting gets a chance to share.  The other members of the group try to offer help and resources, when appropriate, based on their own experiences.  Volunteer with NAMI-RI The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) is currently seeking volunteers to facilitate our family programs in 2024. Free training is required and available for interested persons who have a loved one struggling with mental health issues. Together with our grassroots volunteers, we work every day to provide help and hope to millions of Americans.
