Sept. 28

This morning I joined Councilman James McElroy at Hoxsie School as he cut the ribbon on the brand-new basketball court. Last year I appropriated $200,000 to all nine councilmen to be spent in their wards. One of the projects that Councilman McElroy chose was this court. The court doesn’t just serve this school but the entire area. My grandson used to attend Hoxsie and even though he’s 21, he and his former schoolmates still occasionally play there. The court is always busy!

Sept. 29

The Conimicut Art Fair has been moved to the rain date of Sunday, October 1st from 10 am until 4:30 pm. Plan to stop by and enjoy the beautiful arts and crafts and enjoy the beautiful (finally) weather.

Excellent job by the WFD with support from WPD securing the scene and providing aid at the two alarm fire at Greenwich Village apartments, 300 Lambert Lind Highway.

Sept. 30

PLEASE BE ADVISED: It has come to the attention of the Gaspee Days Committee that several “bots” are posting with links to purchase a Gaspee t-shirt. THIS IS SPAM! We have reports of numerous bot accounts posting this kind of content. The ONLY place you can buy official Gaspee merchandise is through Gaspee - at one of our events. Thank you to those who have reported this!

Oct 1.

This morning I joined Warwick Firefighters past and present, family members and guests for the annual Firefighter Memorial. Warwick firefighters that are no longer with us were remembered and honored for their service. It was a beautiful and well attended ceremony.

October was first declared as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989. Since then, October has been a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims. If you are looking or know someone who is in need of assistance you can call the Rhode Island statewide Helpline for 24-hour support and information at 800-494-8100 or use the online chat feature at www.ricadv.org. Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV) Some patches are still available!!! https://warwickpolice.ecwid.com/

This morning I held a press conference to make a very important announcement. Three weeks ago, we went out to bid for the naming rights for the City Hall Plaza outdoor rink/year-round event center naming rights. Greenwood Credit Union was the top bidder at $300,000 for a five-year period. This is $25,000 more than Providence gets. Greenwood Credit Union has long been a part of the fabric of this community. Their generosity over the years has helped youth sports, schools, charitable organizations, nonprofits, etc. Joining me at the press conference was Chairman of the Board at Greenwood Tom Ahern, Council President Steve McAllister, Councilman Gephart, Councilman Foley, and Parks and Recreation Director Bev Wiley. The rink is about 95% designed and we hope to go out to bid in November.

Tomorrow, October 4, 2023, at 2:20pm, FEMA plans a nationwide test that will send an emergency message to all cellphones, radios and televisions. It is only a test, and no action is needed.
