Warwick residents who were affected by severe storms and flooding that occurred between December 17-19, 2023 and between January 9-13, 2024, can apply for federal assistance. Homeowners and renters who received property loss or damages by either disaster have until May 20,2024 to apply. A Disaster Recovery Center is now operational at the Warwick Fire Department Station #10 located at 225 Potowomut Road from 8:00am to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Saturday. Residents can also apply by calling 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This is 5-year-old Landon Vazquez of Warwick who is battling a rare lung disease. His family is on a mission to raise awareness in hopes of finding a cure. They have started the organization, Breath of Hope, RI to educate people about Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis, or IPH. This disease can be life-threatening and, unfortunately, is often misdiagnosed. Landon’s family has organized a 5K run/walk to raise money to help find a cure. It’s being held Saturday, May 18th at Goddard Park at 10:30am. To register, simply scan the QR code with your phone. All proceeds from the race will go directly to the research of IPH at UNC.

It was a beautiful day to plant a red maple tree at Park Elementary School in honor of Arbor Day. This is the 19th year the Wildlife and Conservation Committee has planted trees at schools across Warwick. This tree was graciously donated by Yard Works of Warwick. Thank you!

I had a great morning throwing out the first pitch and participating in Opening Day ceremonies for both my alma mater Warwick North Little League, and Warwick Continental American Little League. The weather was awesome. A big shout out to all of the board members, coaches and volunteers that provide these wonderful programs for our children.

45 years ago today, at the age of 19, Mayor Picozzi married the love of his life who was 20. They were told repeatedly that they were too young, and it would never last. Here they are, all these years later. They have two wonderful daughters and four beautiful grandchildren, and a life filled with nothing but love and happiness. If you see the Kim the First Lady today (and the Mayor), wish them a happy anniversary.

Mayor Picozzi is grateful to have been invited to the 22nd annual Imagine Walk held at Goddard Park and put on by the Autism Project. Thousands of people attended and participated. A huge shout out of admiration and respect to the members of the Autism Project, the many volunteers that made today happen, and the sponsors and all of the wonderful people that contributed.
