CAR STOLEN

On February 20 around 9:30 p.m., Officer Christian Vargas responded to Warwick Mall for a report of a missing vehicle.

According to the report, Officer Vargas met with a man in the parking lot who stated he had parked and secured his 1996 gray Oldsmobile Sierra in front of the food court around 6 p.m. He returned to the lot around 8:30 p.m. and was unable to locate his vehicle. The man notified mall security, who drove him around the entire lot in an effort to locate the car but were unsuccessful.

Officer Vargas then had Officer Walter Larson check the parking lot of the victim’s residence on Lambert Lind Highway, but that search turned up negative. The victim told officers he was in possession of the car’s keys and no one else had access to them. No broken glass was found on the ground where the car had been parked.

The victim advised that he would like to press charges if a perpetrator is found, and the case was forwarded to detectives for review.

LARCENY

Officer Jamey Petit was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Walmart on February 20 around 11:25 for a report of a larceny from a vehicle.

At the scene the officer met with a woman who stated she had parked her white Toyota Corolla in the lot at the beginning of her shift at 1 p.m. When she returned at 11 p.m. she found her driver’s side window had been smashed. According to the report, the victim advised that her Pioneer car stereo, valued at $150, had been stolen from the dashboard. No other items were taken from the car.

The officer’s report indicates that there were no visible fingerprints and it is unknown how the suspect broke the window. Due to the location of where the car was parked, it was unlikely that there would be any video surveillance of the incident. The report was forwarded to detectives for review.

VANDALISM

On February 16 at approximately 1:35 p.m., Officer Darren Parrillo responded to the Bald Hill Road Walmart in reference to a malicious damage report that had just occurred.

Officer Parrillo located the reporting party who stated he had just arrived in the lot to do some shopping at the store. As he was waiting for a parking spot, another party backed out of a spot. As the man attempted to make a left turn to park, another vehicle came from around the corner and attempted to pull into the same parking spot. The man honked his horn, and the other vehicle passed him while the driver made comments towards him.

When the victim exited his car, a female approached him while swearing and yelling, and there was an exchange of words. She continued to swear at him while he walked into the store. When the man returned to his car, he found that his driver’s side door had been keyed.

Photographs were then taken of the damage. A description of the woman’s small gray car was given, and the woman was described as a black female with short hair with a slight red tint, was about 140 pounds and about 5’4” tall. Pictures of the suspect were also obtained from surveillance footage. The report was then forwarded to department detectives for review. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

While in the area of Route 5 and Route 113 on February 11 around 1:45 a.m., Sergeant Jedidiah Pineau observed a dark colored SUV turn left onto Greenwich Avenue with a wide turn, then began driving back and forth in an “S” turn manner.

The SUV then accelerated to about 40 miles per hour, according to the report, and continued to swerve back and forth using both lanes of travel while driving south. It was snowing lightly at the time and the road was snow covered. The officer continued to observe the SUV drive in an unsafe manner before turning right onto Vancouver Avenue, where it could not make the turn and drove off the road into a snowbank. The car then backed up and began to drive on Vancouver before the Sergeant initiated a traffic stop.

Approaching the passenger’s side door, the driver-later identified as Gerard Theroux, 39, of 23 Cameron Way in North Attleboro, Mass. and his passenger began saying how they were just trying to get home. Sgt. Pineau’s report indicated he had difficulty speaking with the driver as the passenger continued to talk and had to be asked to refrain.

Pineau then approached the driver’s side and spoke with Theroux, who stated he was trying to take his friend home. He then told the officer he was going to another friend’s house. Theroux seemed to be confused as to where he was heading and kept changing his story.

When asked if he had anything to drink that evening, Theroux indicated he had three beers and one shot at a bar, but could not provide the name of the establishment. He was then asked to participate in a series of standardized sobriety tests, which he agreed to. During the tests, he told the officer, “My god I’m doing terrible.”

Theroux was charged with driving under the influence, first offense, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and laned roadway violations. He was later released to a sober adult.

How many more deaths from OUI until this State gets serious with punishment? A child and a senior citizen die on the same night within 3 miles of each other at the hands of habitual offenders. Don't think for a second there is not an unholy alliance between politicians, politician-lawyers, and the judges who are confirmed by them that allows this carnage to continue. Keep that revolving door going, R&r, trial, slap on the wrist and the mayhem continues...Only way everybody in the proceedings gets paid. Ask Mikey McCaffrey, he's the Senate Judiciary chairman...YO CHAIRMAN, where is your "leadership" and sponsored legislation that changes these mickey mouse plea deals into serious felonies, like in many other States? Explain yourself. I won't hold my breath for any of this to change, unless KARMA intercedes, and some politician, lawyer or judges kid gets killed by a druggie or drunk...Then watch how fast the sentencing guidelines change...OK public, you can go back to sleep.
