Incident on Sarah Teft Dr.

Warwick Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Sarah Teft Dr. Tuesday at 7:15 PM.  Police learned that prior to their arrival  family members had vacated the home and the remaining individual was armed with a firearm and may possible have several other firearms in the home.  Officers were able to make contact with the subject by phone and on one occasion the male exited the residence, however retreated back in shortly after.

Col Bradford Connor reported that approximately 5 minutes later, officers heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the interior of the home.  Officers made entry after several attempts to raise the subject were unsuccessful and found the male deceased in the basement area.  The scene was turned over to detectives for investigation.  Warwick SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were assisted by the RI State Bomb Squad and RISP.

DUI

At 3:34 a.m., Aug. 26, Warwick Police Officer Andrew J. Chretien responded to the report of an erratic driver in the area of Narragansett Parkway. While en route dispatch advised the vehicle had reached Pilgrim Parkway and was heading west.

Chretien spotted the vehicle on Post Road, where he said it was traveling at “a high rate of speed in the area of Gregg’s Restaurant,” according to the arrest report.

He pulled a U-turn and followed the vehicle, which allegedly crossed the fog line and hit the curb while making a turn onto the Route 37 ramp.

“It should be noted that I had not activated my emergency lights and sirens yet due to the lack of a safe place to pull the vehicle over,” Chretien wrote. “The vehicle then passed the 95 North ramp and attempted to make a sudden left hand turn onto the 95 South ramp. Due to the vehicle’s speed it was unable to make the turn and it proceeded to crash into several traffic cones and something in the grass where it then bounced back into the roadway.”

Chretien activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle, but it kept going for another 100 feet before pulling to the side.

Police identified the driver as Jasmin Luciano, 41, of 73 Lorraine St., Pawtucket. She couldn’t locate her driver’s license and “appeared disheveled as her dress was unzipped in the back and she appeared confused as to where she was,” Chretien wrote.

Police smelled alcohol and asked Luciano to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. She consented. Following the tests, she was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC 0.10 to 0.15, first offense). She was also cited for Leaving the Lane of Travel and Due Care by Driver.

DUI

At 3:54 p.m., Sept. 5, Warwick Police Officer Jessica L. Masso was dispatched to United Supply Company at 361 Jefferson Boulevard for the report of a “motor vehicle offense in progress.”

A caller told police that a silver Toyota Rav 4 was driving erratically in the parking lot and almost struck a vehicle and several people in the lot.

Police were informed that the driver “did not look good” and the caller was trying to keep him on the scene.

Upon arrival, Masso met three men near a sedan in the parking lot. Two of the men identified themselves as employees of the business. One of them told Masso that he heard “a vehicle doing donuts in the parking lot.”

There were tire marks on the pavement. The witness told police the vehicle jumped the curb and drove onto the grass. He pointed out the vehicle and the driver.

Police identified the driver as Bryan E. Arroyo, 26, of 570 Benefit St., Pawtucket. Police noted he had “droopy eyelids.” The witness told police he suspected Arroyo was under the influence.

Arroyo told police he was fired from his job that day, and just wanted to call his mother to pick him up. When police asked him for his driver’s license, he handed them his debit card.

He allegedly told police he drank three nip bottles of Fireball whiskey.

Police asked Arroyo to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He consented.

Following the tests he was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (0.15 or greater, first offense) and cited for Driving on a Suspended/Revoked/Canceled License (second offense).

RECKLESS DRIVING

At 12:34 a.m., Sept. 5, Warwick Police Officer Kevin P. Grant Jr. was wrapping up a traffic stop on Interstate 95 North when he spotted a grey sedan traveling at a high rate of speed. He followed the vehicle and eventually clocked it at 103 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

The vehicle switched lanes rapidly, “nearly striking multiple vehicles.”

Grant initiated a traffic stop.

Police identified the driver as Alex J. Almeida, 26, of 72 England St., Cumberland.

The driver told police that he “was running low on gas and did not realize that he was having difficulty maintaining his lane of travel, as well as speeding,” Grant wrote in the arrest report.

Police asked Almeida to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He consented. Police determined that he was not impaired.

They still arrested Almeida, however, on a Reckless Driving (and Other Offenses Against the Public) charge. He was also cited for Speeding (+11 mph in Excess of the Posted Speed Limit) and Failure to Maintain Proper Control of Vehicle.
