LARCENY

On Sept. 7, Warwick Police responded to the H&M Store inside the Warwick Mall at 400 Bald Hill Road to investigate a reported larceny.

The store manager told police that on Monday, Sept. 4, around noon, an unknown man entered the rear “employee only” section of the store and went through the employee lockers ultimately stealing cash from one of the employees.

The manager said she saw the man leaving the back room and confronted him about being in the back. The man said he went back to use the bathroom. She told the man he wasn’t allowed in the back, but he stayed and shopped for 45 minutes, but did not make a purchase.

The man was wearing a mask. The store manager told police it was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras. The employee victim told police that $155 in cash was taken from a duffel bag she had brought to work.

The case will be forwarded to the Warwick Police Detectives Unit for potential follow-up.

DUI

Around 12:50 a.m., Sept. 9, Warwick Police Officer Keara M. Enos was on routine patrol conducting a RIPTIDE (Rhode Island Police Teaming for Impaired Driving Enforcement) patrol, traveling east on West Shore Road near Buttowoods Avenue when her attention was drawn toward a red 2013 Ford F150 with Massachusetts plates.

The truck’s tires allegedly crossed fog-line, so Enos turned her cruiser around and followed it. The vehicle continued to swerve, nearly striking the curb, according to the arrest report.

Enos initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Michael K. Souza, 49, of 1103 New Boston Road, Apt. 2, Fall River, Massachusetts.

Police noted the driver had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Enos smelled alcohol. Souza said he had not had anything to drink.

Police asked the driver to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He consented. Following the tests, he was arrested and charged with DUI (BAC Unknown, first offense). He also received a citation for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense) and Laned Roadway Violations.

At 2:22 a.m., Sept. 16, Warwick Police Officer Kevin P. Grant Jr. was on a stationary traffic post on Airport Road near Dave’s Marketplace when he spotted a silver Hyundai swerving in its lane of travel.

Grant followed the vehicle and observed it sit at a green light for about 10 seconds before taking a left turn onto Warwick Avenue. The vehicle eventually reached the intersection with Squantum Drive and began driving in the opposite lane of travel.

Grant initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Sherry A. Vanni, 56, of 165 Camden Ave., Apt. 3, Providence.

Police asked the driver to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. She consented. Following the tests, she was arrested and charged with DUI (BAC Unknown, first offense). She also received a citation for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense), Places Where Parking/Stop Prohibited, Manner of Turning at Intersection and Laned Roadway Violations.

Dispatch received a report from a caller who saw a blue van driving with a flat tire in the area after it hit a curb near a gas station.

Enos eventually found the vehicle parked at a gas pump at the Neon gas station.

“As I drove around the vehicle, I observed that the front, driver’s side tire of the vehicle was shredded — and the vehicle was resting on the rim,” Enos wrote in the arrest report. “As I approached, I observed a female walking away from the driver’s side of the vehicle.”

Police identified the driver as Meghan M. Quinlan, 24, of 40 Mead St., Apt. B, Coventry. Enos smelled alcohol and noted the driver was slurring her speech.

TAMPERING WITH VEHICLES

At 6:51 a.m., Sept. 16, Warwick Police Officer Alejandro J. Martinez was dispatched to the Homewood Suites, 33 International Way, for the report of a man’s tires stolen from his vehicle overnight.

When police arrived, the vehicle, a black 2019 Audi, was “being held up by pieces of wood and rocks,” according to the incident report.

All four tires were missing. The owner said that the car was locked and no items were taken from inside.

Hotel staff were asked for video surveillance, but they told police that the hotel does not have exterior cameras. A report was taken for insurance purposes.

RECKLESS DRIVING

Around 12:32 p.m., Sept. 17, Warwick Police Officer Michael C. Bailey was working a distracted driving detail and driving west on Airport Road near the entrance to Winslow Field when he spotted a black Tesla drive past at a high rate of speed.

“We then observed the vehicle to make an abrupt lane change, failing to utilize the turn signal for 100 feet,” Bailey wrote in the arrest report. “The vehicle entered the left lane, going around us, and then made a quick lane change to the right, cutting off the vehicle in the right lane. The Tesla continued to travel at a high rate of speed, following the vehicle in front of it too closely.”

The driver made another abrupt lane change and Bailey eventually caught up after having to travel 55 miles per hour on the posted 35 mph road.

Police estimated the Tesla was traveling about 65 mph. Police initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Mohammad A. Rehman, 27, of 7 Preakness Drive, Lincoln.

Police arrested Rehman and charged him with one count of Reckless Driving.

“Rehman immediately stated that he wished to cooperate, but wished to speak with a lawyer,” Bailey wrote. He received citations for Following Too Close, Intervals Between Vehicles, and Time of Turn Signal.
