Do dampening their fervor

In a storming of City Hall Tuesday afternoon, about 50 students chanting “You can’t stop us” and “Keep your promise” demanded the administration restore sports and other after-school programs with additional funding for schools. Lily Brown (foreground), who met with the mayor when she picketed City Hall on June 19, acknowledged that the school committee needs to restore the cuts but was back at City Hall because the “mayor lied to us” when he promised he could restore the programs. In an interview yesterday, Solomon said, “Let's go forward. Don't play with their [student] emotions. Don't interject union sentiments and use the children for that. Whether it be WISE Union members or any other union members. I'm not going to say it's immoral, but it's disgusting to utilize our youth to promote things that are not accurate and false. And to be disrespectful and call people liars, that's not a good way of showing people how to be responsible adults as they go forward. I don't know how that educates someone in life. That really puts a negative taste, and when they find out they were used, it's going to be an even greater negative taste. And that's not for promoting or educating our youth in a proper manner.” The students had plans to demonstrate at tonight’s School Committee meeting and a fundraiser for Ward 5 Councilman Ed Ladouceur.
