Gov. Gina Raimondo, Rhode Island’s first female governor, will kick off the state’s 23rd annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk Sunday, Oct. 16 at Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence.
The walk will unite the community with a shared determination to help create a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer. Though this noncompetitive, inspirational three-mile walk takes place in the capital city, it is a statewide event. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk is set to start at 9 a.m., rain or shine.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Providence will include survivor recognition at a tent set up just for survivors, family-friendly entertainment and activities for all. Gov. Raimondo will speak during the opening ceremony.
