The fir tree planted last year in front of the Thayer Arena was trimmed with lights Monday in preparation of the holiday lighting event set for Saturday starting at 5:30 and running until 8 p.m. The night of family festivities includes carols sung by the Girl Scouts, live ice carvings, dance performances, crafts and activities, food trucks, free ice skating with donation of a non-perishable food item and, naturally, photos with Santa and costumed characters. Steven Wolfenden and Matthew Boulet needed a lift to get to the top of the tree. What was missing, however, was a star for the top of the tree. City crews also strung lights for trees at Donovan Park in Conimicut and Pawtuxet Park. (Warwick Beacon photo)
