For the first time in its history, the Rhode Island Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in three cases using remote technology this week.
The five justices and the attorneys who will argue will all be at separate locations.
The onset of the COVID-19 public health crisis prompted the Court to cancel hearings in March and April but prompted Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell to direct the Judicial Technology Center to assist the justices in hearing case arguments with video-conferencing technology. The Judicial Technology Center has assisted the other five courts in the unified judicial system with remote hearing technology in recent weeks as well.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear three cases on Wednesday, May 13, starting at 9:30 a.m. and four cases on Thursday, May 14, also at 9:30 a.m. The public may listen to live audio of the proceedings on the Supreme Court’s channel on YouTube. The link is:
