With temperatures in the 90s last week, city beaches were popular places to beat the heat. As posted signs indicate, lifeguards are not on duty at this time with the exception of weekends during the month of June from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily lifeguard coverage at the city’s three beaches – City Park, Oakland Beach and Conimicut Point – commences on July 1. According to Holly Weber, parks and recreation coordinator, the city has successfully recruited sufficient lifeguards to comply with state regulations. A release issued by the administration reads, “Over the past several years, the City along with state and local agencies has made tireless efforts to revitalize our shores. Thanks to the numerous positive relationships the City has fostered, our beaches remain among some of the most beautiful in the state. In an ongoing effort to keep our beaches safe, clean and accessible, the Parks and Recreation Department is committed to upholding our policies and procedures to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment throughout the summer season.” These pictures at City Park were taken last Tuesday when Kerri and her daughter, Trinity, waved for the camera while others at the beach found refuge in the shade.
