Posted

Junior guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) finished with 17 points and eight rebounds as No. 4 Rhode Island College knocked off eighth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus, 71-61, at the Cruzin Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

IC trailed by six in the first quarter before graduate guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) hit a free throw and canned a three-pointer to pull the Anchorwomen within a bucket, 12-10, at the conclusion of the first quarter.

Medbury had five points as RIC went on an 8-0 run to lead, 31-23, with under a minute left to play in the first half.

The Gusties stayed within two possessions for most of the third quarter until a Medbury three and a layup by senior center Neleesha Meunier (Leominster, Mass.) increased the hosts’ advantage to eight, 51-43.

A Medbury layup with 7:35 left in the final frame gave RIC its largest lead, 13 points, as the club led, 58-45.

The Gusties pulled with five with just under three minutes left, but fifth-year guard Jeniyah Jones (Randolph, Mass.) converted back-to-back layups to seal the win.

Junior forward Angelina Nardolillo (Hinsdale, N.H.) finished with 16 points, six rebounds and a pair of assists. Jones contributed 14 points, six boards and three steals. Guerrier finished with 12 points, seven boards and two steals.
