The Johnston football team won a 54-38 shootout against winless Chariho on Friday night to end its season on a positive note.
The Panthers moved to 2-6 behind touchdowns from five different players, including two rushing touchdowns apiece for Tyler Nasisi, Joe Turchetta and Nassir Vasquez. Kyle Nelson added a passing touchdown while Riley Brazenor ran for another.
The two sides combined for 68 second-quarter points, with Johnston managing a mind-boggling 42 to give it a comfortable lead it would not relinquish.
Caleb King had two receiving touchdowns of 70 yards or longer for the Chargers, but the Panthers’ offense would be too much to handle overall.
After starting off the campaign 0-5, the Panthers managed to win two of their last three contests.
