Roundup: East hands Pilgrim Opening Day loss

The Pilgrim baseball team was shut out by visiting Cranston East 1-0 on Monday afternoon.
Pitcher Nolan Canestrari had a strong outing for Pilgrim despite the loss, pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing no runs, three hits and striking out nine batters. East’s lone run came on a passed ball in the seventh inning.

South Kingstown 6, Toll Gate 5

The Rebels picked up an opening day win when they beat Toll Gate. The Titans were led by Dylan Perreault, Connor Salzillo and Brayden Ogden, who all knocked in runs. Ogden also recorded four strikeouts on the mound for Toll Gate.


Hendricken 10, Coventry 4

Griffin Crain knocked in three runs while Jack LaRose added a pair of his own to lead the Hawks to a win over the Oakers. Crain also earned the win on the mound.


SOFTBALL


Prout 5, Pilgrim 4

Prout dealt Pilgrim an extra-inning loss last week. Skylar Hawes knocked in a pair of runs for Pilgrim while Marin Prest and Audra McDonnell also recorded RBI. Madison Tuirok and Genna D’Amato each had multi-hit performances.

Pilgrim pitcher Gretchen Dombeck finished with 14 strikeouts in the circle.
